I am a third-year graduate student in the Department of Philosophy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I originally hail from the Pacific Northwest, and later spent a few years in the upper Midwest before moving south. I hold a BA in philosophy from Whitman College, and an MA in philosophy from Northern Illinois University. Along the way, I spent a year as a VISTA with AmeriCorps, and a summer at the Hong Kierkegaard Library at St. Olaf College. I formerly served as the Research Fellow for the Parr Center for Ethics here in Chapel Hill.

My philosophical interests are fairly broad, but my thinking nowadays has been centered around metaphysics and philosophy of science. My other main interests include epistemology, metaethics, the history of modern philosophy, and the philosophy of logic.

At the moment I am attempting to formulate a dissertation project. My Master’s thesis argued for an inconsistency between deflationary theories of truth and constructive empiricism. More generally, I am trying to figure out the best way of understanding the various realism debates across philosophy, and how various notions of truth can clarify or obscure those debates.

In my spare time I've been known to write, record, and perform music, and I like to get out on my bike. I also enjoy bookshops, baseball, photography, cooking, climbing, sunshine, and good conversation. I'm happy to discuss academia with anyone interested in pursuing philosophy at the graduate level, especially if you're looking at NIU or UNC, both of which are fantastic places to do philosophy.
