Smeagol/Jeff

Jeff has really improved alot over the last few months. I guess he should have 'cause he plays alot. He is not a seasoned veteran but he's no newbie either. He plays a pretty steady game and watches his fronts pretty well. He is not afraid of a dogfight and will often fight with recklass abandon. When and if he works on his mechanics, stops hardlining pills and learns to shoot doubles he will be a more formidable opponent. Jeff and I allied in a 2x1 vs Drad that lasted like forever - over 3 hours. We finally lost the game when Drad captured all the pills and then pushed us off the map, but it was a fun game. I have played Jeff 1x1 and if i hadn't lost my lgm so much, I prolly would have done better. Heck I had him down about 10 pills to 4 and he came back on me - anyway - there's another guy that I think I should be able to do better against but... by Flag Smeagol has indeed improved in a hurry. That being said, take my observations with a grain of salt, because I think he's one of those players whose game seems to be unusually effective against me. He is not a GREAT player, but he is tough to take out. The key seems to be whomping on him at the beginning of the game--he can be overwhelmed early in a game. If he gets a few pills, he can put up dogged resistance, however. Rarely gets your man on the way in, but he seems to almost always kill him after the plant. Back when I first wrote this profile, it read thusly: "He is not a very offensive-minded player, however, which holds him back from the next level I think. He'll take a pill and rape undefended bases, but he doesn't seem inclined to move his pills forward to hold the territory. He can put you in a tough position, but may not have the knack for finishing; he doesn't seem to exploit a pill advantage aggressively." This looks pretty funny now, because now Smeags often goes for the quick attack in an effort to get YOU off-balance. You have to watch for it. On the other hand, he still has a sort of one-track mind--he doesn't always shift what he's doing in order to exploit opportunities as they arise--if he's taking pills, he keeps taking pills even if an opportunity for an important rape appears, etc... I think he may be trying to play the Dradgame off the start now, piling on the quick spikes... he did this very effectively against me in a couple of games a while back. On the other hand, I've pounded him by beating him to the punch. |
