Applied Microeconomics Student Workshop
Department of Economics-University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
  Spring 2008

We plan for preliminary oral exams (defense of the prospectus) and final oral exams (defense of the dissertation) for applied micro students to be scheduled as part of the workshop. Exams have priority for scheduling and so there many be changes in the order in which students present.  Since the times of the exams must accomodate the schedules of faculty on the committees, some of the workshops might be scheduled outside the usual workshop time and some regular attendees might be unable to attend. Also, there may be scheduling conflicts that necessitate using a conference room in which case only the committee members and student being examined would be able to attend.  Ryan Goodstein, David Jones, Steven McMullen, Silviya Nikolva, and Tetyana Schvydko will be completing their dissertations this spring or early in the summer, and their names will be added once they have scheduled their oral exams.

The tentative schedule for the first three weeks of the semester is listed below.   It appears that none of us have conflicts at noon MWF, 9 am MWF, or 3 pm F.  We plan to meet to meet for an hour at noon on Wednesdays unless (a) there is a faculty meeting at that time in which case we would meet at noon on Monday or Friday or (b) a student with a 1 pm class is presenting in which case we would meet at 3 pm Friday or 9 am on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.  Understandably, those with 1 pm classes may need to leave the workshops a little early.
