National Libraries

The National Library of Belarus
This library was originally the Belarusian State and University Library and was founded in 1922. It only became the National Library in 1992. Its website provides the address, phone numbers, and email of the library as well as the name of the Director. A fairly long description of the library and its holdings, activities, and current technical capabilities is given as well. It is not possible to search the catalog or any databases from this website, it is useful only as an introduction to the library and for contact information and hours of operation.

The Republican Scientific and Technical Library
This is one of the largest libraries in Belarus, established in 1977. This is a pretty basic webpage, it is made up of one page with no links. Right at the top is the contact information. Following that is a description of the library and its collections. The page also discusses the services offered, hours of operation, publications, and partner institutions. The library is the national patent depository and a center for scientific research and organizations.

The Jakub Kolas Central Scientific Library
This library is part of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The site is fairly simplistic and the English translations are not always correct, but the information provided is clear and easy to find. The site mentions an electronic catalog and databases, but there is no access to them as yet. Detailed contact information for library employees is given, as well as a history of the library and its relationship to the scientific community, nationally and internationally.

Belarus Agricultural Library
The goal of this library is to provide "every citizen of Belarus with opportunity of free access to the information on agriculture, forestry and food." These webpages provide extensive information about the library. Some of the areas covered include; the library's mission, values, and priorities, the library's services and events, and the available resources. There are links to the library's partners and supporters and to AGROWEB, a database of agricultural information and links focusing on Central and Eastern Europe. Contact information and hours of operation are available for each department within the library as well.

University Libraries

Belarusian State University Library
This page of the University's website simply provides some general information on the library itself. There seems to be no way to search the catalog nor is any possible method of contacting the library given. The goal of the page seems to be to provide details about the size and focus of the collection. The library contains over two million volumes, most of them relating to Belarusian historical literature, mathematics, physics, philology, biology and radio engineering.

Public Libraries

Libraries in Belarus
This website is one of many pages that portray a "Cultural and Educational Profile of Belarus." This gives a short history of the library in Belarus and links to four major libraries in the country. Unfortunately, it has been a year and a half since the site has been revised. Three out of the four links still work however, so the site is useful for them and for the history lesson. It is also very nicely and simply organized.
