Timeline of Stromboli Experiment May 2001
Jonathan M. Lees, UNC-Chapel Hill
April D. McGreger, UNC-Chapel Hill
Length of Experiment: 16-05-01(136) to 25-05-01(145)

Instruments and Station information:
Three Stations with a total of 12 channels of which a maximum of 11 were recording at the same time.

FOR- located in Fortini, above SW crater, AKA station 1188, Guralp 40T with three components; channel 4 is vertical,
channel 5 is north, and channel 6 is east. Channel 1 records infrasonic data summed from four separate microphones.

HEL- located just off the trail near the NE crater, AKA station 1208, Guralp 40T seismometer with three components;
ch. 4 is vertical, 5 is north, and 6 is east. Chan 1 records the summed infrasound of four microphones.

FOS- located in the Fossetta, east of crater 3 (SW), AKA station 1187, Guralp 3T seismometer with three components;
ch 4 is vertical (but is disfunctional for the experiment's entirety), ch 5 is north, and ch 6 is east. Channel one records
infrasonic data on a Larson Davis Microphone.

Reftek DAS and Discs were used on all stations and Solartec solar panels to recharge 12 volt batteries.
Insufficient power or charge is suspected as the cause for flatlined data problems beginning after dark on day 141.
When I suspect this, I described the data as flatlined. GPS clocks were connected to the stations and all data is
reported in GMT time.

TIMELINE

Day 136, 16 May, 2001: Data for FOR (only) from 15 39 34.0 to 16 12 23.6
Day 137, 17 May, 2001: Data for FOR (only) from 6 7 54.1; quality of seismic improves at 17 21 54
Day 138, 18 May, 2001: Data for FOR begins at 0 to end of day
Data for FOS begins at 16 25 56.2 to end of day, but channel four is out and ch. 5 and 6
have an overprint of, perhaps, electrical noise. Data is still readable.
Day 139, 19 May, 2001: Data for FOR at 0 to end of day
Data for FOS all but channel 4 at 0 to end of day
Data for HEL at 12 54 27.2 to end of day
Day 140, 20 May, 2001: Data for FOR at 0 to end
Data for FOS at 0 to end
Data for HEL at 0 to 19 55 44.0
Day 141, 21 May, 2001: Data for FOR at 0 to 16 19 56.0 when flatlines
Data for FOS at 0 to 16 50 00.0 but back again at 18 47 3.2
Data for HEL at 0 to 16 00 00.0
Day 142, 22 May, 2001: Data for FOR recovers from power shortage* at 10 20 10.6 until 22 36 1.2
Data for FOS (CH.1 ONLY) from 0 to end of day. Ch. 4 is damaged, but 5 and
are suspected to suffer from power shortage.
No HEL
Day 143, 23 May, 2001: Data for FOR recovers at 10 20 18.9 until it flatlines again at 17 14 30.0
Data for FOS (CH. 1 ONLY) from 0 to end. Ch. 5, 6 are flatlined.
Data for HEL from 13 33 17.5 to end
Day 144, 24 May, 2001: Data for FOR is flatlined.
Data for FOS (CH. 1 ONLY) from 0 to end. Ch. 5, 6 are flatlined.
Data for HEL from 0 to end
Day 145, 25 May, 2001: Data for FOR is flatlined.
Data for FOS (CH. 1 ONLY) from 0 to dismantled at 16 32 10.09. Ch. 5,6 are flatlined.
Data for HEL from 0 to 1 33 30.8 when flatlines. Dismantled at 14 14 13.6.
