Professional Responsibility
for Quantitative Psychologists: A Proseminar
Psychology 208
Fall 1999
Brief Course Description
This proseminar section will provide a formal
opportunity for students to begin a dialogue about issues related to
professional responsibility and ethics in psychology, especially for
researchers in quantitative psychology. Issues that will be covered
in readings, discussion, and through class exercises include:
Ethical codes for psychologists, issues surrounding testing and
psychological assessment, ethical conduct in researching,
supervising, and teaching, relating to others, special
responsibilities for individuals with quantitative expertise, and
engaging in contractual work for pay. In addition to weekly
readings, students will be responsible for: (1) facilitating
discussion for one class session; and (2) conducting an interview in
which an ethical professional dilemma in psychology is discussed and
preparing a critical analysis of the interview.
