The University and the Community
With Jonathan Howes, Special Assistant to the Chancellor

The University of North Carolina and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro community are inextricably linked – to each other and to the Research Triangle region and the state of North Carolina. In this section, we will look at the history of relations between town and gown in Chapel Hill, between the development of Research Triangle Park and the area universities, and will explore contemporary issues, including campus and community planning, transit and parking, development of the University’s Carolina North property (formerly called the Horace Williams tract), and the role of the University in the local elections this fall.
