Assistant Professor—Graphic Design

The College of Creative Arts at West Virginia University invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Graphic Design in the Division of Art & Design.

Job Description: Responsibilities include teaching at sophomore through graduate level students. Web design and interaction design will be one component. Teaching assignment is 18 contact hours a week as well as helping to maintain a state of the art computer lab. All faculty members are expected to maintain professional and creative development as well as participation in university and division committee activities and faculty governance is expected of all faculty members. There are opportunities to teach in established study abroad programs in Italy, China and Mexico or to develop new international programming.

The Graphic Design Program is well established and has placed graduates across the US as well as in all the top graduate programs in the design field. Our senior year runs a working design studio and generates income for visiting designers and assistantships. WVU’s design area limits class size in upper level courses to 15 and has a viable graduate program.

Qualifications: Applicant must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution, an MFA, and university-level teaching experience. The successful candidate must be committed to teaching and the production of creative research engaging contemporary design practices, and should clearly articulate a knowledge of typography, design history and design theory. This applicant must be a practicing designer experienced in web, interaction and time-based applications.

Rank and Salary: The position is a full time, 9-month tenure-track appointment with benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience. The position begins August 15, 2009.

The Visual Art Department at High Point University seeks a qualified candidate to teach Digital Art/Design and Graphic Design based courses beginning in the Fall of 2009.*

We seek a candidate committed to teaching excellence and to maintaining an active program of scholarship and creative activity. Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Graphic Design

Queens University of Charlotte seeks a Graphic Designer with an MFA and minimum of 3 years of teaching experience to fill a position as Assistant Professor of Graphic Design. This tenure track position will begin August 2009. Teaching responsibilities are for undergraduate graphic design classes. Knowledge of animation design, flash design, video editing and 3D modeling is required. An interest in film and/or photography is preferred. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach in our interdisciplinary Core Program in the Liberal Arts and the John Belk International Program. A commitment to a liberal arts education and to teaching excellence is expected. This is a fulltime, tenure track position. MFA required.

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke seeks an art historian specializing in Modern and Contemporary. Preference for expertise in Native American Art. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach theory and criticism, and a variety of courses covering Renaissance through Contemporary, including Native American Art, the second half of a two-semester survey and possibly Art Appreciation.

Teach four courses each semester. Participation in professional, departmental, and university activities, including publications, committee work, advising, assessment, etc. Community activities required for positive performance evaluations. The candidate will help with curriculum development and long range planning working closely with the Art History Coordinator.

The Department of Art includes 12 full-time faculty, 1 Visiting Painting Professor and Artist in Residence, and 9 adjunct faculty members. BA degrees in Art (with concentrations in ceramics, digital, drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture), Bachelors of Art Education (K-12) and Graduate Art Education Degrees are offered, as well as minors in Media Integration Studies and in Art History.

Assistant Professor of Photography – Tenure Track

The Department of Art at Vanderbilt University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art position beginning fall 2009. Qualifications include an M.F.A. degree, strong exhibition record, knowledge of analog, digital and experimental photographic processes and commitment to continued growth as an artist in the photographic medium. Teaching experience beyond the graduate level is preferred. Responsibilities will include teaching, providing departmental and college-wide service, as well as maintaining traditional darkroom facilities. Courses taught will include, but is not limited to, beginning and advanced photography, digital photography, and alternative processes.

Visual Resources Curator

The Department of Art at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro is seeking a Visual Resources Curator for a full-time position beginning September 29, 2008, or as soon thereafter as possible. The Visual Resources Curator will be responsible for the following:

• Managing a large visual image collection, visual resources library facility, and equipment maintenance
• Developing and expanding the existing image collection through research and acquisition of new images
• Providing metadata, scanning and cataloging images
• Training and supervising student employees
• Facilitating faculty and student learning of media tools and selection of images in training sessions and workshops
• Administering policies and procedures for image circulation, collection development, requests for new technology, and copyright issues

Applicants must be proficient in the use of Macintosh computers and software to include MDID, Excel, Photoshop, Word, and Nikon SuperScan.

The curator must have exceptional organizational skills, be self-motivated and work well in collaboration with faculty, students and staff. Excellent writing skills and strong attention to detail is required.

Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in Art History, or a Master's degree in Library and/or Information Science with substantial education in art history. Experience working with a visual resources collection and supervisory experience is necessary. Deadline; August 31, 2008, or until the position is filled.

The Department of Art at Mississippi State University seeks to hire two full-time tenure track Assistant Professors in Graphic Design to begin in Fall 2008 or until filled. Salary commensurate with experience. Duties for the Graphic Design position include teaching courses in Graphic Design, Typography, Advertising Design, Print Production, and Graphic Design History. Duties also include student advising, committee service, and the pursuing of an active body of research. Candidates should be proficient with design applications including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Knowledge of Flash and Dreamweaver a plus. Candidates required to have an MFA/terminal degree in graphic design or related field. Teaching experience required. Professional experience preferred.

The Department of Art at Mississippi State University also seeks to hire a Visiting Assistant Professor in Photography. The position will begin Fall 2008. The successful candidate will teach four courses a semester. This is a one year non-tenure-track position with performance expected in the areas of teaching and service. The primary responsibility of this position will be teaching Art 2103: Photo Survey. This introductory photography class combines technical proficiency with the camera along with developing a personal aesthetic and utilizes either analog or digital SLR input. All image editing is done with Adobe Photoshop CS3 and output is with professional Epson printers. Participation in undergraduate advising, committees and service. Opportunity to serve on undergraduate thesis committees. Three years of teaching with exhibition record preferred.
