For years, listings of U.S. lighthouses have included the Manhattan Range Rear Light in Toledo, Ohio. I'm indebted to Jon Clay for pointing out that actually there are two surviving range lights in Toledo, including one located at the Lighthouse Café on the Maumee River at 2506 Broadway Street. Thanks also to Ray Saif for confirming that this second tower is in fact the Manhattan Range Front Light. Here are Jon's photos of both towers.

This is the Manhattan Range Rear Light, located at Hansen Industries, 2824 North Summit Street, Toledo. We need more information on the history of these lights! When were they deactivated? When were they moved? Is it true that the front light was in pieces for years and has only been reasembled fairly recently? Please let me know if you have any additional information. |
This is the Manhattan Range Front Light, now located at the Lighthouse Café, 2605 Broadway Street, Toledo, on the banks of the Maumee River several miles south of the rear light at Hansen Industries. |
