Alice van Kalsbeek worked from 1983-1998 in the Department of Dutch as a Second Language at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where she specialized in education, teacher certification and the development of teaching materials. Among other things, she co-authored the Dutch language instruction series, Code Nederlands (1990, 1996) and has done extensive research in the area of the instruction of Dutch as a second language. Since 1998 she has worked at the Steunpunt Nederlands als vreemde taal at the Universiteit van Amsterdam, where she coordinates projects and advises teachers of Dutch from around the world. This is her third time conducting the teacher workshop at the ICNS.
