Contact tracing basics

By actively taking part in the contact tracing and sharing critical information with Campus Health and local health departments, you can help keep our community safe and healthy.

A crucial way that Carolina can get ahead of the spread of COVID-19 is through effective contact tracing.

If a member of the Carolina community tests positive for COVID-19, the University will follow standard contracting protocols to identify and communicate directly with those who had close contact with the individual.

By actively taking part in the contact tracing and sharing critical information with Campus Health and local health departments, you can help keep our community safe and healthy.

“I want to convey the importance of picking up that phone and talking with us in an attempt to help identify individuals who might have been at an increased risk for exposure,” said Mike DeFranco, the public health services manager for the communicable disease division at the Orange County Health Department. “This is not punitive. There is no getting in trouble. This is all confidential. It’s really, really important for us to be able to ensure the safety of individuals who might have been exposed to give them the proper resources and to help get ahead of this.”
