The Data Management group at AIS provides a wide range of services to UNC-Chapel Hill.
These services include:
- Database design and administration
- Data warehouse design and administration
- Enterprise reporting of administrative data
- Fulfilling the data requirements of the Office of the President of
the University of North Carolina
- Webmaster services for the AIS web presence
- Research, Development, and Implementation of emerging
technologies and their employment by AIS

Data Management Groups:

Database Management
Database Management is responsible for the Data Administration and
Database Administration for all CA-IDMS and Oracle databases housed
on servers at AIS. Data Administration is concerned with logical data
models, including data naming standards, and definition of data
elements. Database Management is concerned with the physical
structure, integrity, performance, and backup and recovery of a
database.

Data Warehousing
The Data Warehouse group
provides critical planning information to University top management
using mainframe and desktop computer-based information retrieval
tools to produce extracts and summaries of information spanning many
different University operating areas.
- Technical Architecture
Technical Architecture is an expert group
whose highly technical staff members serve as consultants with applications
developers and systems staff on architecture and development strategies
for major business applications. Team operates as cross-functional
unit to assess technology trends, develop prototypes; help develop
strategic directions; recommend software and hardware; and assist
applications developers and systems staff in diagnosing and remedying
problems. Team emphasizes technology transfer to the rest of the organization.
