American Medical Women's Association

The UNC School of Medicine’s chapter of the American Medical  Women’s Association is a student organization which has been founded for the purpose of bringing together female medical students and providing them with unique opportunities to further their medical education.  Our primary objectives are to offer students innovated intellectual opportunities; a chance to get involved in the local community; gain mentors; and to acknowledge the accomplishments and achievements of women in the medical field.

Our main activities include a mentoring program that matches a medical student with a female physician in order to help guide students in their educational, career and life decisions.  We also have several seminars each year where we invite members of the medical community to speak about different issues concerning women in medicine, including minority women in medicine, parenting and medicine, research opportunities and how to balance family and medicine. In addition, we sponsor a 5K race/walk for women’s health, where all proceeds go to the Orange County Rape Crisis Center.
