About APPLES

Mission Statement

APPLES is a student-led, staff-supported program that builds sustainable, service-learning partnerships among students, faculty and communities in North Carolina and beyond. By engaging all partners in an enriched, community-based curriculum, APPLES experiential programs foster socially aware and civically involved students.

What is Service-Learning?
Service-Learning is:

  • A method by which students learn through active participation in thoughtfully organized service.
  • An activity conducted in, and meeting the needs of, the community.
  • A program integrated into and enhancing academic curriculum, which includes a structured time for reflection and helps foster civic responsibility.

Directions

  1. Get on Hwy 54 heading towards Chapel Hill.
  2. After passing the exit for Hwy 15-501, you will see a visitor parking lot on your right just before the stoplight.
  3. Continue straight on this road (South Road).
  4. You will pass the Knapp Building on your left and the cemetery on your right. Metered parking spots are often available along South Road.
  5. At the next stoplight, the gym will be on your left and the Student Union on your right. (This is the corner of South Road and Raleigh Road.)
  6. Turn right onto Raleigh Road. 
  7. The first parking lot you see on your left leads to a set of stairs.  Take those stairs and walk straight up, leading you to the breezeway between the Student Union buildings.
  8. The APPLES office is in the building on the left; take the last set of double doors of the building on the left and walk up one flight of stairs to the top.
  9. Upon exiting the stairwell, take a right and the APPLES office will be immediately on your left.  It is Suite 3514, noted by a sign.
