Student Leadership Doubles in One Year

SLI started before the fall semester of 2003. There were 41 participants who engaged in service with 8 community agencies completing 300 hours of service in two days. Service-learning brings rivals together

“Reflection and the service-learning experience” is a course that brings together six UNC students and 17 Duke students to allow them to learn how to reflect on their service experiences. The course also trains students to be peer facilitators and lead discussions after volunteer experiences. The course meets once a week on alternating campuses via the Robertson bus. Funds from the class stem from APPLES, LEAPS (Duke’s service-learning program), and the Robertson Scholars program.

New Service Distinction Involves APPLES Courses

The Carolina Center for Public Service created a new graduation distinction to recognize students for excellence in public service while at UNC, which required students to take two APPLES courses.
