For Faculty
Faculty are integral to the success of a student’s service-learning experience. APPLES offers an array of services and resources to assist faculty in the facilitation and integration of service-learning into their course. Please contact us to learn more about any of these opportunities.

APPLES enables me to construct a course which I believe is the ideal learning experience. It allows me to merge a reciprocally beneficial mix of cognitive-based classroom learning and experiential-based learning in the community.
Dr. Joel Schwartz, Political Science
Combine academic coursework with community service through an integrated service-learning experience for your students. Community placements offer students the opportunity to experience the abstract concepts they are learning in the classroom in a real-world setting. Currently, more than 30 service-learning courses from over 16 disciplines are offered every semester. For more information, view our Course Instructor Guide.
Work with a student on an independent study while the student develops relevant academic exercises in conjunction with an APPLES internship or fellowship experience.
Participate in workshops and faculty development institutes, offered in conjunction with the Center for Teaching and Learning, covering a variety of service-learning topics.
For faculty currently teaching APPLES courses or interested in learning about service-learning, subscribe to the faculty listserv. Messages are sent out about upcoming opportunities, deadlines and other news.
Call (919) 962-0902 or email apples@unc.edu to set up a consultation regarding the specifics of your course. This is the first step to becoming an APPLES faculty member and will help you better understand the resources available to you.
