APPLES Announces!
Many students here at UNC have expanded upon their experiences through involvement in planning service-learning programs. Recently, a few APPLES undergraduates shared their expertise in service-learning implementation through a book called, Students as Colleagues, that was recently published by National Campus Compact. These students wrote a chapter of the book, which is now available to service-learning programs throughout the country.
We are very proud to be included in this publication. Congratulations to all involved:
Dac Cannon, '07
Emily Cupito, '06
Janaka Lagoo, '06
Kasey Q. Maggard, '04
Beth Payne, '06
Leslie Parkins, APPLES Associate Director
Interest in Students as Colleagues has grown throughout the service-learning community. Bentley College in Massachusetts will be hosting a conference this fall, "Students as Colleagues," which will include workshops based on the focus of the book. APPLES is working to recruit UNC students to attend the conference in November. More information on the event can be found at Bentley College's website.
Molly Campbell and Maggie Rechel, current APPLES organizers, are featured in the October 2006 edition of "Blue & White" Magazine. The article, "Volunteering Abroad" highlights global service experiences of UNC students, which includes APPLES Global Service-Learning Program in Guadalajara, Mexico.
