What to Expect

Expectations of Community Partners

  • Orient students to the agency’s mission and goals
  • Complete service-learning agreement with student volunteer(s)
  • Be accessible and available to service-learning students
  • Provide training, supervision, feedback and resources for the students to succeed
  • Monitor student progress and completion of required service hours
  • Complete and submit evaluations at the end of the semester

Expectations of Student Volunteers

  • Make initial contact with your Supervisor and set up an orientation meeting
  • Discuss with the Site Supervisor the goals of your course and your personal objectives
  • Complete service-learning agreement
  • Commit to a regular schedule of 3-5 hours per week for the duration of the 10 weeks
  • Exhibit professional behavior at all times
  • Respect agency confidentiality, rules and expectations

APPLES Support

  • Select, coordinate and facilitate community placements
  • Conduct site calls and visits to community placements
  • Consult on troubleshooting issues
  • Communicate with faculty and agencies regarding placement challenges or successes
Fall Timeline
July: Complete service-learning volunteer request.
August: Attend Core Connections Breakfast.
September: Complete Service-Learning Agreement with student following placement selection.

Complete site visit with APPLES staff.

November:

Complete Evaluation(s) and return to instructor.

Spring Timeline
November: Complete service-learning volunteer request.
January: Attend Core Connections Breakfast.

February:

Complete Service-Learning Agreement with student following placement selection.

Complete site visit with APPLES staff.

April:

Complete Evaluation(s) and return to instructor.
