Community Partners
Service-Learning Courses

Most community partners are involved with our service-learning courses program. Students enrolled in designated service-learning classes combine academic coursework with community service. The service experience is directly linked to the content of their course. As a part of the course, students commit to serving 3-5 hours a week for 10 weeks with a specific community partner.

QuoteWhile the benefits of having these students are great, they are most effective when they are integrated into the organization. This doesn’t happen by giving a student a pile of copying to do. It happens by the supervisor making a real effort to help the student understand the whole organization, and creating doable projects that really contribute something.

2008 Core Connections Breakfast
Tuesday, January 8, 2008
9:00am-11:00am
039 Graham Memorial

At the beginning of each semester, faculty and community partners engage in a dialogue to help build and prepare for a successful service-learning partnership. During the breakfast, community partners receive information from faculty regarding course goals and syllabus. In addition, faculty learn more about available service-learning experiences from the community partners.
