For Community Partners
APPLES is a student-led program that builds sustainable, service-learning partnerships among students, faculty and communities in North Carolina and beyond. Submit Requests for Volunteers or Interns
APPLES solicits requests for service-learning course volunteers in July (for the Fall semester) and November (for the Spring semester) and for service-learning interns in August (for Spring interns) and October/November (for Summer interns). Information about requests and subsequent deadlines will be sent out over the community partners listserv.
Attend the APPLES Core Connections Breakfast
At the beginning of each semester, faculty and community partners engage in a dialogue to help build and prepare for a successful service-learning partnership. During the breakfast, community partners receive information from faculty regarding course goals and syllabus. In addition, faculty learn more about available service-learning experiences from the community partners.
Site Visits with APPLES Staff
APPLES conducts site visits with 1/3 of our community partners each semester and contacts the others by phone or email. This usually occurs at the mid-point of the semester, in October/November for the Fall semester and February/March for the Spring semester. The purpose of the site visit is to learn how the student(s) are acclimating to the service-learning placement and organization, as well as learn what support APPLES can offer to facilitate a better service-learning partnership.
