Service and Leadership Living-Learning Community is an initiative of the APPLES Service-Learning Program and the Department of Housing & Residential Education at UNC-Chapel Hill. The goal is to engage students in a variety of service experiences and dialogue to encourage an awareness of social issues, development of leadership skills and assistance in the transition to Carolina in an inclusive on-campus housing environment. The Service and Leadership Program encourages the development of a community identity, while promoting active participation in service-learning and civic leadership projects and opportunities.

The Service and Leadership Living-Learning Community is located in on the 4th floor of Ehringhaus Hall. The program is supported by upper-class student mentors, dedicated to the development and success of both the program and the participating students. Various university faculty and staff are also available for guidance. Housing staff representatives, including professional and student staff, are located in the Ehringhaus community, always ready to respond to students' needs in their living environment.

The Service and Leadership Living-Learning Program requires participation the Public Service Scholars Program. Students will also take part in the following:

  • Leadership Development - Students will choose 2 leadership development workshops per semester (offered by faculty, staff, or students in the community).
  • Community roles rotation - Roles may include, but are not limited to: speaker introductions, event planning, and leadership of reflection activities.
  • Voter registration (if eligible)
  • A variety of service projects for personal and group reflection
  • Enroll in a Spring-semester course that will integrate the service you participate in [fulfills EE/SS GEC requirements]
