Social Entrepreneur Fellowships
Program Overview

APPLES offers Social Entrepreneur Fellowships of up to $1,500 and 3 hours of graded credit to undergraduates creating sustainable entrepreneurial projects that address an identifiable community need. Up to five Fellowships are awarded each year.

Selected Fellows enroll in PLCY 326, “Social Ventures” in the spring of 2008. In conjunction with the Minor in Entrepreneurship, this course is integrated as the academic requirement for all Social Entrepreneur Fellows. The course examines the concepts and tools needed to pursue social ventures, taking students through the process of creating a detailed plan for their proposed venture. Fellows work in close collaboration with a community partner and implement their projects in the summer and fall following the completion of the required course. In addition, Fellows participate in monthly reflection sessions and prepare a final report and presentation upon completion of their project.

Social Entrepreneur Fellowships are open to all returning, undergraduate students. Students already enrolled in the Entrepreneurship Minor are eligible to fulfill their summer internship requirement through this fellowship. APPLES is available for individual project consultation to provide applicants with beneficial tips on developing a project proposal as well as successful strategies for developing community partnerships.

  • Attending an orientation to the Fellowship Program in November of 2007
  • Providing the Fellow with a connection to the community
  • Advising the Fellow in their area of expertise (domestic violence, child development, Latino relations, etc.)
  • Meeting monthly with the Fellow to provide feedback on project implementation and outcomes

All community partners must complete a Community Partner Agreement. (set link to updated agreement sent as part of the application)
