J. Desai Global Service-Learning Award

The J. Desai Global Service-Learning Award was established in 2007 and is made possible by the very gracious contribution of Jatin Desai who has established a permanent endowment for this purpose. The funds are to be used to defray travel costs for participants

Award Amount
$500 is given to two recipients each year

Application Deadline
Completed applications, including a current resume, are due by March 11, 2011. Interviews will be conducted the week of March 14, 2011.

Eligibility
The award requires a recipient must:

  • Be an undergraduate student
  • Have previous APPLES experience
  • Have previous service experience with international issues, locally or globally
  • Maintain a 3.3 gpa
  • Be selected to participate in one of the APPLES Global Service-Learning Initiative program

Project Requirement

Recipients are expected to keep a journal throughout their global service-learning experience as well as submit a two-page reflection paper upon their return. This paper will highlight the recipient’s personal experience as well as offer recommendations for improvements in future program development.
