Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Coalition of NC About the agency: APPCNC’s mission is to support NC communities in preventing adolescent pregnancy through advocacy, collaboration, and education. APPCNC provides training and resources to professionals statewide who work in teen pregnancy prevention or teen parent support. We educate service provides on science-based practices for effective teen pregnancy prevention; gather and disseminate statistical information necessary to design effective youth development programs; educate public officials on how government can enhance community efforts to prevent teen pregnancy; and assist individual counties in mobilizing human and financial resources to reduce local teen pregnancy rates. Internship Description: We have designed this internship to assist youth-serving professionals in their efforts to educate our state’s leaders during the Adolescent Health Advocacy Day in March 2008 about the relationship between public policy and adolescent health. The AHAD will also use a videoconference from Raleigh to allow teen speakers to present on health issues and effective advocacy, after which participants will go to prearranged meetings with legislators. The general format of this day will encourage individuals to meet with their legislators in their home districts, utilizing APPCNC to help them navigate the process. The goals of this internship are:
Skills Needed: Basic computer skills with MS Office. Good organizational skills. Comfort in initiating phone calls and talking to many people. Interest in health and public policy is a plus, but not required.
