	Service-Learning Internships Spring 2008 Internship Sites Spring Internship Sites \| Spring Program Overview Internships Homepage Cameron Park Elementary School 240 St. Mary’s Rd Hillsborough, NC About the agency: Cameron Park Elementary is one of seven elementary schools in Orange County. The school is located in downtown Hillsborough and serves approximately 580 students. We are unconditionally committed to providing a safe, challenging, and individualized environment that fosters opportunities for all students to experience successful learning. Internship Description: The Intern will work with nine K-1 teachers, a Reading Recovery teacher and Reading Resource teacher to support early literacy by helping students master competencies in reading and writing. Many of our kindergarten and some of our first grade students need more daily one-on-one experiences in pre-reading, writing, and literacy skill building. The Intern would adhere to the following goals: Meet with supervisor [associate principal] to discuss expectations, gather resources, and tour facility Meet with Reading Recovery and/or Reading Resource teachers to strengthen knowledge base about reading and writing in elementary school Meet with K-1 teachers and schedule times for observations Work cooperatively with teachers to form a partnership in literacy instruction and/or skill building experiences with students who are challenged to meet benchmarks set by literacy pacing guides. During the last six weeks, the intern will be able to create literacy lessons independently modeled from observations, engagement, and discussions with supervisor. The intern will also development or revise a pamphlet on assisting with children’s literacy needs for future interns to utilize at Cameron Park Elementary School. Skills needed: Enjoyment working with 5-7 year olds in small groups. Understanding of how to use other staff, media, and the internet as resources. Flexible, self-motivated, and inspiring.
