Franklin St., Ste 214 Chapel Hill, NC http://womenscenter.unc.edu About the agency: The Carolina Women’s Center works to empower women and promote their equality in all spheres of life and to celebrate the work of women that better humankind. We serve faculty, students, and staff on the Carolina campus through programming, advocacy, providing resources and referrals, education and outreach. Internship Description: The Carolina Women’s Center is planning its second biennial conference, Combating Sex Trafficking: Prevention and Intervention in North Carolina and Worldwide, to be held at the Friday Center, April 3-4, 2008. The intern will work closely with Dr. Pamella Lach, who is serving as the coordinator for this event. We hope that the intern may have some familiarity with human trafficking—specifically sex trafficking—and will certainly develop some expertise in this area as a result of working on the conference. The intern will serve as an advocate for anti-trafficking work on campus, which will include an education and awareness component, and assist in promoting the conference. The intern would be involved in conference planning and coordinating activity including, but not limited to, outreach to Carolina undergraduates to encourage their attendance at the conference; programming prior to the conference to provoke interest and discussion on campus [local experts, film screenings, etc]; assistance in organizing the resource area of the conference venue, which might include developing print or web-based resources Skills Needed: MS Office, particularly Excel. Desktop publishing or marketing experience helpful. Strong interpersonal communication skills. Detail-oriented, responsible, dependable, flexible.
