	Service-Learning Internships Spring 2008 Internship Sites Spring Internship Sites \| Spring Program Overview Internships Homepage Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival 1439 Henderson Tanyard Rd Pittsboro, NC http://www.shakorihills.org About the agency: Shakori Hills has as its mission to build community, to create a rich and diverse cultural music and art experience for all ages, to deepen community interactions, and to provide an engine for positive social change. The community really is the organization, as it is mostly all volunteer-run and volunteer set-up, run, and breakdown the event. Our goal is to work more with local schools and to bring music into the schools and kids to the festival to participate. Internship Description: Interns will be working towards the 6th Annual Shakori Hills Grassroot Festival taking place April 17-20, 2008 and what will be really special is that they will have the experience of seeing a project come to fruition. The intern would work with members of the organization to make the project happen and then they will get to actually have an active role in it, before and at the festival. they would get a full experience of seeing the different sides of setting up a project and also making it actually happen with time afterward to figure out what worked best and what might need to change. We would also like to develop a program with local schools where musicians and/or artists at the festival either go into the school to do workshop or the kids come here to the site to work on a project. The intern would work to create an outline of the Music-in-Schools Program, contact schools, and communicate with the artist/musician about what they will be doing. Skills Needed: Skills in computers, graphic design, and communication Majors of Interest: Education, Arts or Arts Management, or a nyone who is interested in creating and implementing a music/art education program.
