About the agency: The mission of Campus Health Services is to promote, restore and maintain the optimal health of students through a commitment to an inclusive environment and to excellent, affordable, confidential, and compassionate service. Additionally, the mission of Counseling and Wellness Services is to provide high-quality, confidential, compassionate, and culturally-competent service through a continuum of wellness promotion and psychological services to enhance the lives of student and promote social, personal, and academic growth. We provide individually tailored consultations for students in the areas of sexual health, substance abuse, tobacco cessation, fitness, and nutrition. We also provide group workshops and interventions aimed at creating a healthy UNC-CH campus community for all students.
Internship Description: The intern would serve UNC and its greater community by providing outreach programs around health topics. Ideas range fro passive health promotion such as creating and implementing a weekly newsletter, to proactive outreach such as creating and implementing a health education liaison program with the residence halls and/or Greek communities. The intern would also be invited to observe or co-facilitate one-time outreach programs provided to student groups. The intern will be responsible for providing at least one large scale outreach program to the UNC campus and/or greater community and assist with smaller scale health education programs.
Skills Needed: Basic computer skills. Strong writing and oral presentation skills. Maintain confidentiality. Work with creativity. Have knowledge of or being willing to learn abut health behavior.
Majors of Interest: Communication Studies, Health Behavior/Education, Education, English, Exercise and Sports Science, Maternal/Child Health, Sociology, Psychology, Public Policy, Recreation and Leisure Studies, or the fields of Public Health, Medicine, Nursing, Social Work, Journalism, or Student Development
