About the agency: A Helping Hand is a nonprofit organization which provides companion care and escorted transportation to senior citizens, and adults who are temporarily or peramently disabled in Orange, Durham, Chatham, and western Wake counties.

 

Internship Description: The intern will serve predominantly as a companion, providing in-home assistance [no personal care] and escorted transportation to clients. The intern will have the opportunity to work with at least six different clients during the summer, and may work with as many as 15. In addition, we will utilize the particular talents of the intern to increase our organizational capacity. This may include doing volunteer recruitment, special event planning, providing technical expertise for our website or designing printed materials. If interested, the intern will received training on working with individuals challenged by Alzheimer’s Disease and gain understanding of the role of the family caregiver.

 

Skills Needed: Basic computer skills. Good verbal and written communication skills. Pleasant demeanor and attention to detail.

 

Concentrations of Interest: Pre-health programs, Social Work, Public Relations, Marketing.

 

Transportation Needed: Yes
