About the agency: The mission of the Blue Ribbon Mentor-Advocates Program is to establish supportive relationships between adults and children to broaden children’s visions of the future consequently helping them reach their fullest academic, physical, emotional and social potential.  The Blue Ribbon Youth Leadership mission is to provide leadership training and service learning opportunities to minority students.

Internship Description: The intern would provide program support to the Blue Ribbon High School Specialist by organizing the Youth Leadership Institute summer camp and trainings for camp peer mentors.  The intern would also serve as a role model to minority students with leadership potential. An intern would help with the organization and implementation of the Blue Ribbon Youth Leadership Institute summer camp.  This overnight camp provides leadership training experiences to students over two summer weekends.   An intern would screen potential participants of the YLI program, assist in the design of this year’s program, and co-facilitate YLI training.  The intern will also be responsible for providing direct support and mentoring to 6-8 students who have taken on leadership roles as “peer mentors” within our program. The intern would also have additional responsibilities for other aspects of Blue Ribbon Mentor-Advocate programming. These and all other responsibilities will be negotiated with the Program Coordinator and based on the intern’s interests.

Skills Needed: Conversational Spanish, Computer programs, excel and great organizational skills.

Concentrations of Interest: This is a great opportunity for interns to work with intelligent and aspiring minority leaders. Interns would have an opportunity to assist students with leadership tools and helping them develop their untapped potential. Students from all majors and programs are encouraged to attend.

Transportation Needed: Preferred but not required
