North Carolina Botanical Garden – Conservation Department 1000 Laurel Hill Road Chapel Hill, NC
Start date: Mid/Late May
About the agency: The mission of NCBG is to inspire understanding, application, and conservation of plants in gardens and natural areas and to advance a sustainable relationship between people and plants.
Internship Description: The intern will support the Conservation Department at NCBG through hands on conservation including but not limited to working with invasive species and rare (Threatened and Endangered) plants. This support will further the removal/control of invasive plants that cause severe damage to our areas natural communities and help educate citizens about these threats. Additionally the intern will assist in projects that contribute to the conservation and recovery of rare plant species in our area and throughout North Carolina.
Skills Needed: The intern must be in good physical condition and be willing to work outside in a range of conditions. The ability to work independently and/or with minimal supervision is important. An appreciation of conservation biology is desirable.
Concentrations of Interest: This internship would be beneficial to biology, ecology and environmental science majors, but is open to anyone with an interest in conservation.
