About the agency: The Durham Arts Council’s mission is promoting excellence in and access to the creation, experience and active support of the arts for all the people of our community.

 

Internship Description: Essential Position Responsibilities are listed below:

 

Centerfest: mailings, coordinating visual artist and non-profit applicant processing, supporting promotion/advertising campaign work, database entry, telephone support, related support work for planning, logistics, marketing, sponsorship, festival management.

  • Visual Artists: Processes and organizes visual artist applications; process payments; enter into database; prepare update and summary reports; coordinate communication with artists – accept/non-accept letters; supply artists with follow up information and festival details; collect and prepare artwork images and copy for jury, promotional purposes and website postings.
  • Non-Profit Organizations: Process and organize applications; process payments; enter into database; prepare update and summary reports; coordinate communication with non-profits – accept/non-accept letters; supply non-profits with follow up information and festival details; collect and prepare logos, images and copy for promotional purposes and website postings.
  • Sponsors: Assists in sponsor prospect research, sales calls, preparation of presentation materials, contract processing, preparation of sponsor materials and signage.
  • Marketing and Public Relations: Assists management team in planning of marketing campaign. Assists in placing calendar listings, tv and radio announcements. Assists in writing and issuing press releases, follow up calls to media contacts. Writes and issues email promotions, and supports production process for promotional materials (Tshirts, posters, etc.)
  • General administrative support: correspondence, answering and directing phone calls, filing, copying, emails, organizing materials, delivery and pick up of materials and supplies.

Development and Fundraising : coordinating and administrative support work for fundraising campaigns, related record-keeping, database entry and maintenance, coordinating related mailings, and other related work as assigned.

  • Coordinates and helps prepare mailings to donors.
  • Does accurate and timely filing of hard-copy files – donor files, grant files, event files.
  • Conducts research on donor prospects as assigned.
  • Data entry and reports as assigned.
  • Drafts, Copies, compiles fundraising materials as needed.
  • Other related development and administrative tasks as assigned by Executive Director.

 

Special skills: Strong communication and organizational skills. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office. Ability to represent Durham Arts Council effectively and professionally in person, and in writing. Spanish is always a plus.

 

Concentrations of Interest: Visual Art, Public Administration, and/or Communication and Marketing
