Internship Description: The Assistant Unit Leader assists the Unit Leader in carrying out camp programs and to identify and meet camper needs

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to guide campers and help them learn.
  • Ability to live and work with other adults as a team.
  • Willingness to adjust to daily situations (flexible).
  • Knowledge of the Girl Scout program and safety practices.
  • Willingness to learn about and develop skills in a variety of program activities.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Perform responsibilities and duties under the general direction of the Unit Leader. Unit Leader is kept informed of progress and unusual problems.
  • Assist Unit Leader in the planning, coordinating, and monitoring of unit program with campers.
  • Assume responsibility for health and safety of the campers.
  • Recognize individuality of each camper and help her to benefit positively from her experience.
  • Help in the supervision of daily cabin or camp wide clean up chores.
  • Responsibility to see that the campers wear clean clothing, follow appropriate sanitation procedures, and are appropriately dressed for the weather and activities for the day.
  • Assist those campers and staff who may have difficulty fitting into camp atmosphere.
  • These are not the only duties to be performed. Other duties with the units and camp programs may also be assigned as required.

 

Skills Needed: Cognitive and communication abilities to coordinate and conduct activities to achieve camper development objectives; Abilities to observe staff and camper behavior, assess its appropriateness; Assist with appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures; Ability to communicate and work with groups and provide the necessary assistance to staff and campers; Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to camp

 

Concentrations of Interest: Education, Psychology, Sociology, Physical Education, and Leisure Studies

 

Transportation Needed: None, just the ability to get to/from the site.
