About the agency: The mission of NC-HCAP is to increase the number of underrepresented minorities and individuals from economically and/or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds who are trained, educated, and employed in the health professions.

 

NC-HCAP does this by:

  • Increasing awareness of career opportunities in the health professions
  • Cultivating interests in pursuit of health professions
  • Enhancing opportunities to gain access to formal training and education programs in health professions
  • Increasing the probability of success in completing formal training and education programs in the health professions

 

Internship Description: The NC-HCAP Communications Intern will assist the Communications Manager and other programmatic staff members in all facets of communications, public relations, and marketing for the organization. Specific duties and responsibilities are listed below [please note that depending on the projects underway at the time of the internship, students interns may engage in several of those work-related activities]:

  • Publications
  • Graphic design
  • Website
  • Special event planning
  • Displays/exhibits
  • Presentations/speeches/reports
  • Mail/correspondence
  • Media relations
  • Information requests

 

Skills Needed: Preference is for a rising junior or senior. Knowledge of AP style, design software [InDesign, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Freehand], office equipment [fax, copier, computer]. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, learn quickly, and function in a team-oriented environment. Skills in photography preferred, but not required.

 

Transportation Needed: None, just the ability to get to/from the site. Walking around campus may be necessary.
