Classroom Resources

Outreach Programs: Pre-Service Teacher Training

Project FlyerObjective:

Contributors:

The project will be funded by the U.S. Department of Education through grants to National Resource Centers in area studies at UNC-Chapel Hill.  Each area studies center will name a faculty specialist who will work collaboratively with an education pedagogy specialist in developing the modules.  Project coordination, web design and distribution will be completed by the Center for European Studies at UNC-CH.

Timeline:

Initial funding for the project is expected to begin August 2006, with collaboration between faculty teams throughout 2006 and 2007.  We propose to offer the course as a pilot project in early summer 2008 in an intensive format at one of the UNC campuses with recruitment at all North Carolina Schools of Education. This will allow for course revisions to be made based on student and faculty evaluation.  The revised course would be made available, free of charge, in Fall 2008.

If you are a faculty member in a School of Education and have a strong interest in area studies and international education, we invite you to be involved in the development of this course.  Development stipends will be available for faculty participants.  Contact Ruth Mitchell-Pitts (rmpitts@email.unc.edu) if you are interested in this opportunity or can recommend someone for the project.
