UNC's Languages Across the Curriculum Program currently seeks TAs to teach the following Spring 2010 discussion sections:
FRENCH LAC section for POLI 239: Introduction to European Government
GERMAN LAC section for GERM 257: Society and Culture of Post-War Germany (HIST 257 / POLI 257 / SOCI 257)
GERMAN LAC section for POLI 239: Introduction to European Government
SPANISH LAC section for HIST 143: Latin America Since Independence
SPANISH LAC section for INTS 210: Global Issues in the 20th Century (ANTH 210 / GEOG 210 / HIST 210 / POLI 210)
Qualifications:
Candidates should be native speakers or possess advanced proficiency in the target language, and demonstrate relevant teaching experience at the postsecondary level.
Advanced graduate students with interdisciplinary interests are especially encouraged to apply.
Preference will given to applicants who have attended a LAC pedagogy workshop and/or intend to pursue the Graduate Certificate in LAC Instruction.

Terms and Conditions of LAC TA Positions:
The LAC Program is funded entirely by federal grants that expressly prohibit us from paying any portion of tuition or fees.
LAC teaching positions are intended to serve as supplemental teaching experience, not a primary source of funding.
LAC TAs must consult with their home department’s Director of Graduate Study to ensure that they do not exceed the Graduate School’s recommendations concerning maximum teaching loads during the 2009-2010 academic year.
Application Procedure:
To apply for one of the LAC TA positions listed above, submit the following materials by Friday, November 6 to Tanya Kinsella, Center for European Studies, CB# 3449:
1) An application form;
2) A cover letter summarizing your qualifications, including experience in webpage design using Dreamweaver;
3) A curriculum vitae that includes any relevant degrees and your past teaching experience;
4) One letter of recommendation that attests to your academic strengths and your ability to lead undergraduate-level discussions on topics that may lie outside your area of study;
5) One foreign language evaluation form, completed by a UNC faculty member.
Stipend:
LAC TAs are paid a total of $5,000 for the semester (in the form of a $4,000 stipend plus a $1,000 one-time payment upon submission of course website materials).
Tuition Support:
The LAC program is funded by federal grants that prohibit us from paying tuition or fees for LAC TAs. Tuition, fees, and benefits must be paid by the TA’s home department or covered by the graduate student.
