The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill houses seven International and Area Studies Centers. Each center is dedicated to a specific region of the world, with the exception of the Center for Global Initiatives (CGI), which has a broader international focus.
The centers provide services and resources for teaching modern foreign language; research and training in area and international studies; instruction and research related to global issues and world affairs. By pooling our resources, we are able to develop programs that will provide a deeper understanding of the world and of the importance of international education. We place special emphasis on offering resources to educators in North Carolina.
This website represents the collaborative efforts of UNC Area Studies centers. The site houses information about our collaborative projects as well as links to initiatives at individual centers.
Six of the seven UNC Area Studies Centers are National Resource Centers. Click here for more information about the NRC program.
