Ralph Mathisen writes to alert us to plans for Ancient Studies — New Technology III, the third biennial conference on this topic, focusing on the World Wide Web and scholarly research, communication, and publication in Ancient, Byzantine and Medieval Studies. The conference will be held 3-5 December 2004, at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA.
Prof. Mathisen is serving as program chair for the conference, and he has issued a revised call for papers with a deadline for abstracts of 31 August 2004. In particular, conference organizers are seeking papers on topics like:
- the digital museum
- the digital classroom
- the digital scholar
- theoretical issues such as ‘knowledge representation’
300-word electronic abstracts dealing with these issues and with other ways in which the web can help to promote classical, ancient, Byzantine, and medieval studies may be directed to Ralph Mathisen, Program Chair, at ralphwm@uiuc.edu or, via snail-mail, to Department of History, 309 Gregory Hall, University of Illinois, Urbana, IL 61801.1
Those considering submitting a paper may benefit from perusing the websites of the two previous conferences:
