27 July 2001: Tom Elliott

In the Names table for “Map 60: Creta,” on page 932 of the Map-by-Map Directory to the Barrington Atlas, the periods for Gortyn(a) should be changed to read “A?C H R L” instead of “A?”. Once the changes are made, the table should read as follows:

Grid Name Period Modern Name / Location Reference
F4 Germatos H? on Rhodos Sørenson 1992, 98-101
C2 Gortyn(a)
§Ellotis
§Kremnia
§Larissa
A?CHRL Gortyna / Ag. Deka Myers 1992, 96-103; StByz Γόρτυν
A4 Gyaros Ins. Gyalos RE

Please note that our update entries follow the conventions of the Barrington Atlas in the formatting of placenames; i.e., modern placenames are presented in italics, ancient placenames in regular type.
