The staff and affiliates of the Ancient World Mapping Center wish to express their deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of Professor David Woodward, who passed away on August 25. We were informed of this sad news, as so many others have been, via Judith Leimer’s announcement on the Maps History Discussion List this past weekend. Dr. Woodwardʼs contributions to the field of historical cartography, not least through the work of the History of Cartography project that he co-founded at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, cannot be adequately praised here. We remember in particular his enthusiasm and helpful advice for the work of our own Classical Atlas Project, from its earliest days to the present. He will be sorely missed.
