The IKAP website provides information about an archaeological project and associated summer travel/study course (including an archaeological field school) focused on the area around the bronze age site of Iklaina in the southwest Peloponnese in Greece.
IKAP
— under the auspices of the University of Missouri-St.Louis and the
direction of Michael
Cosmopoulos
— has been conducting studies focused on the the
emergence of statehood and social complexity
in the area of Iklaina since 1998. Plans for the 2004 season include:
- Intensive surface survey of the area between Iklaina and the so-called Palace of Nestor at Pylos
- Clearing of previously excavated tholos tombs
- A six-credit archaeological fieldschool for both students and members of the public
- A lecture/seminar trip to ancient Olympia in
celebration of the return of the Olympic Games to Greece
In addition to information about the 2004 season at Iklaina, the website provides:
- Staff photos and biographies
- Images and video clips (MPEG format) from previous IKAP seasons, including:
- Background information, bibliography and web links concerned with:
- The so-called Palace of Nestor at Pylos
- The Linear B script and
the ancient name of the site at Iklaina
(probably something like Alphus or Arphus)
- Greek studies at the University of Missouri
