The LexicOrient website has just
recently come to our attention, thanks to a notice by Torrey Seland on the Philo of Alexandria Blog
(thanks!). This extensive metasite claims to present
North Africa and the Middle
East
— mainly for a Western audience.
1 You can read more about LexicOrient’s authors and
mission here.
The LexicOrient splash page provides an image map linking to sections on maps, travel, news and links for each of the following areas: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauretania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Western Sahara and Yemen.
Topical links provide information about the major religious groups and faiths of these regions, including: Baha’i, Christianity, Druze, Islam, Judaism, Mandeans and Yazidis. News from the region is also aggregated from multiple sources via a convenient list. There are also links to other related websites, including the Encyclopedia of the Orient, the Atlas of the Orient and an online course in Arabic.
