To date, the Institute of Classical Archaeology at the University of Texas has intensively surveyed approximately 36 km2 in the chora of Metaponto. Fieldwork is still continuing. The Metaponto Chora Survey website includes a preliminary overview of settlement trends and survey data for download in GIS formats. The most recent update to the site, made in August 2003, reports on the results of four gradiometer surveys in the study area.
