What is the BoUNCe SBP Smackdown?
Every year, BoUNCe Magazine hosts a student body president (SBP) mock debate called the Smackdown. It is a two-hour-long event geared towards having some fun with the SBP candidates and the rest of the student body. Every year, the Smackdown is one of the most well received events for the general student body, and is generally agreed among SBP candidates to be the most relaxing and least stressful SBP event.
What's more, every year we have done this, BoUNCe has successfully predicted the winner of the SBP elections based of the winner of the Smackdown. Could this be due to clairvoyance, dumb luck, political insight, or just the weight this silly-little-forum carries?
What sort of stuff does BoUNCe do at the Smackdown?
Anything that we can think of. We plan several events for the candidates, some of which take weeks of brainstorming, and some of which come to us in the dead of night, making us sit bolt-upright in our beds, evil grins of enlightenment on our faces. In the past, we've made candidates perform karaoke, recite poetry while doing pushups, put on a puppet show for a panel of orphans, and sumo-wrestle each other in huge fake sumo suits. Some of the events are judged, some deal with political humor and others involve kinky physical humor. It's a show everyone can enjoy.
Come on. Do the candidates really like doing this?
Absolutely. Every year, the candidates look forward to the Smackdown as a time to relax and get personal with the student body. Forum after forum after forum of campus politics and student groups, this is a nice break to have fun and show everyone how much fun they can be. Unlike this former SBP.
Why does BoUNCe do this?
BoUNCe is committed to entertaining the student body of UNC with humor of all varieties, and we want part of our humor to be directed at things going on around campus. Things like the SBP debates. We think that getting the candidates involved in this forum helps them to enhance their appeal, and helps the student body to have some fun with the SBP politics.
