Chapel Hill and University
Police are teaming up
to investigate a string
of vandalisms, noise
violations, and fights
that have been plaguing the University
campus and local residential areas. The
“Police Blotter” in The Daily Tar Heel
tells the sad story.
Drugs and Alcohol are two of the most notorious criminals in the Chapel Hill area. They are believed to have been involved in most of the incidents, as police reports indicate.
“These incidents are clearly the work of an organized gang, hell-bent on disturbing the peace,” said Lt. Keith Spartaine who is leading the joint investigation. “I believe that Drugs and Alcohol are the masterminds of this plot.”
Most recently police responded to a noise complaint on the fourth floor of Hinton James. The RA on duty in Hinton James that night, Rob Paisley, said that he overheard a student talking loudly on his cell phone telling a friend to bring Drugs and Alcohol to the party.
“When we arrived we found a lot of liquored-up kids, but Drugs and Alcohol were no where to be seen,” said Spartaine, adding, “Those two never seem to stay in one place very long because five minutes later we received another call about a stabbing on Franklin St. Although Alcohol was not involved, it was believed to be Drug-related.
Local residents are concerned about the escalating crime in the area and are calling on police to step up patrols. “It keeps getting worse and worse around here,” said Chapel Hill resident Dr. William Kildrew Mainly, III, “I don’t understand why the cops can’t catch those two. Drugs and Alcohol are the usual suspects.”
Police will soon begin increasing patrols at night, and are asking for anyone with information or who sees Drugs and Alcohol to call 911, but are asked not to try to apprehend them alone.
