Fall 2008 Meeting Agenda

Overview

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Board of Visitors is an active group of volunteers, assisting the Board of Trustees and Chancellor in a range of activities that help advance the University, including public relations, government relations and fund raising. But most important, Board of Visitors members serve as ambassadors, informing members of their communities about what is going on at Carolina and, in turn, keeping the University administration informed about what they are hearing about Carolina in their communities.

Structure

The 160 members of the UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Visitors serve four-year terms. Each year, as members rotate off, the Board of Trustees elects a class of 40 new members. That process begins in January when trustees, other BOV members, alumni and University staff make nominations. At its May meeting, the Trustees formally elect a new class of BOV members. The Board of Visitors typically meets twice a year in Chapel Hill. Occasionally, the Board creates committees at the request of the trustees or the Chancellor, and those groups may meet more frequently.
