The State and Local Relations Committee of the Board of Visitors uses its resources to lend support to the University by helping to communicate the goals of the University to the local community. The group advises the University about matters related to Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Orange County and works closely with the University’s Office of Local Relations.
Responding to the need for ongoing communication with state lawmakers, the committee members also address key University issues as they are affected by public policy. The committee builds on the strong relationships many board members already have with state lawmakers. This group also works together to foster new relationships.
Members of the State and Local Relations Committee are the first contacted when Carolina needs assistance with important legislative issues. More importantly, members of this committee educate lawmakers to enable them to thoughtfully consider Carolina’s education, research and public service roles and goals. This committee works with Carolina’s General Alumni Association, and reaches out to other University of North Carolina alumni supporters to advance the higher education and research cause.
