State and Local Relations Committees

The State and Local Relations Committees of the Board of Visitors use their resources to lend support to the University by helping to communicate the goals of the University to the local community. The groups advise the University about matters related to Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Orange County and work closely with the University’s Office of Local Relations.

Responding to the need for ongoing communication with state lawmakers, the committee members also address key University issues as they are affected by public policy. The committees build on the strong relationships many board members already have with state lawmakers. This group also works together to foster new relationships.

Members of the State and Local Relations Committees are the first contacted when Carolina needs assistance with important legislative issues. More importantly, members of these committees educate lawmakers to enable them to thoughtfully consider Carolina’s education, research and public service roles and goals. The committees work with Carolina’s General Alumni Association, and reach out to other University of North Carolina alumni supporters to advance the higher education and research cause.

Chair, Local Relations: Anita Badrock
