Quality Problems

People who note a problem in a campus web page should contact the author of the page that has the problem (there should be a mailer at the bottom of the page for sending comments). If the author fails to take appropriate action, the campus Postmaster should be contacted. The Postmaster will attempt to negotiate with the author. Cases of conflict or those which involve lack of attention will be resolved by the appropriate judicial board.

Web Information Coordinators for groups, the Campus Webmaster, or the system administrator for a web server may delete links and files. Conditions for deletion include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The information in the file is out of date.

  • The file is considered by the system administrator of the web server as causing significant performance problems for the web server.

  • The file is in violation of the law or University policy.

Attempts will be made to notify the owner of the file and correct the problem.

University Web Pages

The University's home page and the secondary pages that provide general information about the University are the responsibility of University Relations. The campus Webmaster assists in an advisory capacity.

Group Web Pages

Group pages linked from the University's home page are the responsibility of the group.

  • Academic departments, administrative units, and research projects are responsible for the content and maintenance of their own web pages.

  • Faculty may have web pages for instructional/course materials and for class projects.

  • Student organizations with web pages linked from the campus home page must be recognized by the Student Affairs office.

  • Faculty and staff organizations with web pages linked from the campus home page must be associated with the University. The campus Webmaster will consult with appropriate campus groups and administrators in determining whether or not a link should be made.

Personal Web Pages

Anyone with an Onyen can have personal web pages on www.unc.edu.

Because the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill recognizes the value of personal publishing on the Internet, students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to produce personal web pages. However, the University cannot and does not accept responsibility for the content of those pages.

Personal web pages of UNC-CH students, staff, and faculty do not in any way constitute official University content. The views and opinions expressed in individual's web pages are strictly those of the page authors. Comments on the contents of those pages should be directed to the page authors.
