Programming in Java

GUI-oriented Java Development Environments allow you to click and drag, then generate code. But the code is hard to understand. Dave uses Code Warrior because he wants control of the code.

Sun's JDKs are free. Metrowerks' CodeWarrior is sophisticated, good stuff, but not GUI and about $100. Sun's Java Workshop is free for academics.

Get Sun's API for documentation. The book Java Programming Language (see http://www.awl.com/cseng/javaseries/index.html) is a good intro. Dave recommends Java Class Libraries for reference. There are many examples and they're online.

AWT is components -- Java Beans.

JHTML is Java code in a Web page. You save as a .jhtml file.
