The process of finding a campus-wide *events* calendar
Elizabeth A. Evans <uevans@email.unc.edu>, Instructional Technology Development, Academic Technology and Networks
Libby gave an overview of the status of a campus-wide events calendar. A large group of people representing a variety of interests is involved in the planning. Brainstorming sessions were held in November and December. A list of ideal functional needs has been developed. The goal is to have major campus calendar publishers up and running in production mode by fall 1999.
Managing personal and enterprise calendaring with Netscape
Vicki Lonell Hain <vicki_hain@unc.edu>, Systems Programming - AIS, Unix Distributed Computing
Vicki spoke from http://www.ais.unc.edu/calendar_info.html.
The service started for AIS, but is now available for any department on campus. It will have its own machine and server. It is recommended that users do a fresh install of Communicator 4.5 with Calendar. There is extensive documentation (about 40 pages) at http://www.ais.unc.edu/ais/calendar. There is a generic online Netscape Calendar training site at: http://mercproj.lbl.gov/mercury/instructions.htm, which is very user-friendly and slick.
Many thanks to Tim Cline, IT Response Center, and the folks at the Classroom Hotline for assistance in setting up the demo.
